PLEGS SHIPPING NOW
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last two years, chances are likely that you already know a lot about the PLEGS. To sum it up, they are simple, cheap, light and STRUCTURAL plastic pegs. They aren't magic. They won’t pull the chicks in or make you invincible...
...They wont even add any length to your yard, but they WILL open up some new terrain for you. They WILL grind much more easily than steel, aluminium or titanium pegs on previously “untouchable” surfaces like aluminium, brick, and rough concrete. They WILL grind over a lot of the existing skate-stoppers and they just might make the local skatepark owner think twice about his "no-bikes" rule (especially if you also have Par Ends and plastic pedals). If the police or security accuse you of wrecking their marble ledges, then you just might be able to talk your way out of trouble by pointing the material out to them and explaining that they won't tear things up like metal pegs (and metal trucks!) can.
There may even be times when PLEGS seem too slippery for the trick you want to do, but we believe that once you try them that you'll probably want them on your bike more often than not. At just 4.3 ounces each (14mm version), or approximately half the weight of a light steel peg, you’ll probably decide never to go back to steel.
Now, if you set out to quickly wear the sleeve down, then guess what? You will! However, a replacement sleeve is half the price of an entire PLEG. When they are used sensibly, and rotated as necessary, they can last you a very long time.
So, why all the delays, you ask? To do it right, of course. We first showed the PLEG prototypes at Interbike ‘06, and at the time we genuinely thought they would be out by the end of that year. However, this project originally started back in 2001, when I made my first set of plastic pegs (designing them so the plastic took the loads, rather than needing an inner core of steel or aluminium). We re-focused on the concept in 2005, and since we started we have gone through three moulding companies, worked on two continents, made two tools, devised five or six tool modifications, and experimented with too many plastic alloys to count - all in an attempt to make them grind as smooth as possible, to maximize their life, and to keep the costs down. In early 2007 we started working with a very high-caliber moulding company, and now we've finally nailed everything down. So, while the latest samples may look identical to the ones we showed in '06, in reality they use a totally different plastic alloy, and they are coming out of a hugely modified tool. We are very pleased with the finished product, and we think you will be too.
So when can you buy some? Well, if you live in the US, the answer is, very soon. The first production batch just landed in California and cleared our final QC checks so they will be shipping out to distributors and shops right away. The approximate retail price is $12 per PLEG (choose from 3/8" or 14mm hardware – sorry, no 9/16”). And a pack of TWO replacement sleeves is also roughly the same price, $12. We're doing matte-black only to start, but other colours should be out later. Replacement sleeves will reach stores in January ’08. Complete PLEGS (with the axle hardware) are shipping NOW.
Availability is limited with this first shipment (due to space restrictions for the final container delivery of the year), so I would suggest getting your orders in right away if you've been waiting for these to be released.
Thanks for being patient with us on this project.
We believe that it was worth the wait.

happy days sounds like the shizzle - I SUPPORT G-SPORT!
Posted by: matt gillespie | December 18, 2007 10:11 AM
just a thought george - how thick is the enclosed peg end? will you need a full length axle to run these - like the terrible one pegs?
Posted by: matt gillespie | December 18, 2007 10:17 AM
The equivilent end thickness is 7mm, so you will need 7mm of axle plus enough length to engage your wheel nut outside the dropout... This is about 2 or 3mm more than most standard pegs.
George
Posted by: George | December 18, 2007 10:35 AM
Actuali in this way of thinking, you should have 7mm more thread in that case. Becouse the core is working as nut over there!
so you don't have to worry about that ;)
Am I right George?
Posted by: jarobmx | December 18, 2007 11:35 AM
^^^ No. The core is unthreaded.
Posted by: George | December 18, 2007 12:11 PM
i thought that might be the case, still i like it and i want to buy them.
Posted by: matt gillespie | December 18, 2007 01:04 PM

Posted by: Butcher | December 19, 2007 05:13 AM
Are those any goog for flatland?
Posted by: koneye | December 19, 2007 02:10 PM
can you not use any pegs for flatland, providing they're not wet or greasy - by the sounds of things these things are pretty strong and rigid so if its the weight of a person on the plastic peg thing your concerned about then i'd guess you've nothing to worry about.
Posted by: matt gillespie | December 19, 2007 04:02 PM
Matt, Impact resistance is one of the properties we were working so long on getting right. Obviously when very HEAVILY worn, they will start to get weak, but when in reasonable condition they will withstand impacts really really really well. Part of our testing consisted of mounting the peg to a special frame and wailing on it with a sledgehammer. A test it passed quite easily.
They should be "goog" for flatland use, you may want to modify the grip either by adding grip tape, or stretching a section of roadbike inner tube over the outside, or by cutting knurling into them.. They are certainly strong and stiff enough I would think.

YYEEAAAHHHHH finally!! but the thing i am really waiting for is the ratchet... is the release still planned for early 08 george? thanks a lot if you reply.
Posted by: sander | December 19, 2007 09:22 PM
Ay George i got a question.
To run my "old" animal Peg at my S&M Pitchfork XLT i needed to cut off an edge of my peg... if i want to run the plegs i probably need to cut an edge of them off... can i do that, or does that weaken them?
paule
Posted by: Paule (Germany) | December 19, 2007 09:24 PM
Thanks.
goog - i'm sorry i can't spell :(
Posted by: koneye | December 19, 2007 11:16 PM
yessssssssssssssssssss sick sick sick sick sick sick ahhhhh
Posted by: jeremy | December 19, 2007 11:31 PM
Hey Paule, it is going to depend how much you cut off. Obviously cutting anything weakens it, whether it weakens it too much is another matter.
From your description it does sound like you would need to take quite a big cut, if you have to cut an Animal peg...

g-sport should make a plastic pivital seatpost ? i think it would work well because there isnt much in a pivital post but you would have to have a big beefy flanged nut on the inside so it wouldnt pull through please make a pivital post made of plastic !!!

Posted by: matt gillespie | December 20, 2007 02:23 PM
i'm sure im pestering you by now george but, could you give me a brief note on the axle hardware, is it to reinforce the enclosed end, does your wheel nut seat down into it ?? just a little confused
cheers matt
Posted by: matt gillespie | December 20, 2007 02:33 PM
Matt, the hardware fits inside the plastic sleeve and goes right up to your dropout. This prevents the axle slipping, and limits the load on the end of the plastic sleeve. It is just an unthreaded hollow thing that your wheel nut or bolt sits down inside. The bit that surounds the head helps to reinforce the most stresses area of the peg/sleeve and keeps it nice and stiff..

Posted by: john | December 21, 2007 01:21 AM
I LOOOOOOVE YOU G!!!!!
but i read on a certian bike related sit that you need 7mm of axle to run plegs..? if then i need a new axle before anything..

finaly they are out!!! my mate mad a plastic pegout of teflon, it worked resonably well for a few weeks!
Posted by: mike | December 21, 2007 02:25 AM
Yes, you ideally need 7mm of axle in addition to the bit for your wheel nut to grip.... or a bolt in hub...
Posted by: George | December 21, 2007 11:49 AM
yeah man:) i'm gonna buy these, this may be my chance to go to pegless parks with pegs:D yeah hope they accept it
